John Steinbeck's sister's cottage--Writing Retreat?

This cabin once belonged to John Steinbeck's sister, Esther. It's located on the Asilomar Conference grounds in Pacific Grove, California.

Today it's called The Guest Inn.

John Steinbeck would retreat to his sister's cabin often to write. It's believed he wrote part of the narrative for Sea of Cortez here.

Care to stay in this quaint cabin? Apparently you can for $305.22 a night (sleeps up to 6 people). We spotted a family staying there. I felt kind of weird taking pictures, but they kindly let me. No, I didn't take any pictures of inside the cabin. I was tempted to ask though.

Asilomar grounds is surrounded by the woods and right across the street is the stunning Asilomar State Beach.

The kids love exploring the tidepools.

That is very cool! I would love to try it out a night or two.
Those photos of the tidal pool are so interesting.

Woah, all I can say is very cool!

Tide pools freak me out, lol! I'm very squeamish, but my kids aren't...too much...anymore...

We used to go to Aslimar when we were kids, brings back memories...

I like the idea of a writing retreat.

Let's get together for coffee while I'm in town...

Lisa, I thought the tidepool photo was a picture of jewels until I looked harder! Thanks for letting us know about this retreat. Very cool - I think the price is right for a photo, though (free), not a stay!

My concept was to write a book on punctuation for creative writers, a book that looked at punctuation as an art form (instead of examining it in the usual narrow, pedantic way). It would be heavy on examples from literary masters and examine thoroughly, for the first time, how they used (or didn't use) punctuation, and how that ultimately impacted their work. Writing workshop
